I witnessed a tractor trailer accident. Are they always fatal?

Maryland highways do see their share of deadly tractor trailer accidents. Tractor trailers are large and heavy and can cause more damage that lighter passenger vehicles, which can also cause deadly accidents. However, they are not always fatal.

Fortunately, if you were able to read some recent news, one very serious accident that involved a tractor trailer resulted in no fatalities, despite how severe the accident appeared to be. ABC7’s WJLA reported on an accident that involved two very different trucks. One was a pickup truck while the other was a tractor trailer.

Tractor trailer rolls on top of pickup truck

A 22-year-old man from California was operating the tractor trailer. It carried a 25-year-old passenger. It was traveling on the outer loop in College Park during late-morning. For reasons unknown at the time of the reporting, it apparently had a side-by-side crash with a Dodge pickup driven by a 26-year-old man and carried a 30-year-old woman as its passenger. The tractor trailer then skidded along a barrier, ultimately colliding with a bridge piling.

Photos reveal the cab of the tractor trailer crushed by the piling. The tractor trailer than rolled on top of the pickup truck. Photos show the pickup truck largely flattened by the larger truck.

No fatalities or serious injuries

Amazingly, and to your question, none of the four people involved dies. In fact, the cited report indicates that were all able to walk away from the accident.

Best to undergo an examination by medical professional

It may be, however, that there were some unknown minor or major injuries of a non-fatal nature that arose after the ABC7 report, which is not unusual in a severe accident like this one. Not all injuries are readily visible, revealing no blood loss or deformity. It is likely a good idea for anyone inovlved in an truck accident or any vehicular accident to see a medical professional.
