Maryland Couple Dies In Crash On Valentine's Day

A young couple from Maryland was killed in a car accident on Valentine's Day. One other person was injured in the wreck, which involved three different vehicles.

The couple who passed away were in a Honda Civic, heading south down Solomons Island Road at around 4:26 in the afternoon. A Toyota Camry was coming toward them and it apparently left its lane, crossed the center line, and struck the Civic head-on. The Civic was close to the shoulder, but could not avoid the impact.

Behind the Honda was a Ford Crown Victoria, going the same direction, and it ran into the other vehicles after the initial collision.

The Honda's driver, who was 21 years old, passed away at the scene. His 20-year-old wife survived briefly and was transported to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, but she passed away the next morning.

The woman driving the Toyota was seriously injured in the crash, and she was also brought to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center. She is 27 years old. A 32-year-old man was behind the wheel of the Crown Victoria, and he turned down medical treatment for reported minor injuries.

The police did say that they don't think excessive speed had anything to do with the crash or that alcohol was involved. Though the investigation is ongoing, they said the initial suspected cause is simply that the Toyota did not stay in its lane, crossing that center line.
